The Best Brand for Bedroom and Bathroom Textiles: Coyuchi

What I Actually Swapped in My Bedroom (and Bathroom) to Make It Less Toxic

I’ve been slowly upgrading my bedroom to be more nontoxic, and one of the biggest things I didn’t fully realize at first is how much of what we sleep on is synthetic.

Sheets, duvets, pillows, even the “soft” or “luxury” options are usually made with polyester or polyester blends. And once you start looking into how those materials are made and finished, it’s hard to unsee.

So this is what I’ve personally been swapping out, and what I look for now instead.

1. What’s Actually On Your Bed

Most bedding today is some version of:

  • polyester

  • microfiber

  • or cotton blended with synthetics

Even a lot of “100% cotton” bedding is heavily processed with chemical finishes to make it feel softer, wrinkle-free, or more durable on the shelf.

That can include:

  • formaldehyde-based finishing agents (used for wrinkle resistance)

  • silicone coatings to create that ultra-smooth feel

  • and various dye treatments that aren’t always disclosed clearly

You’re essentially sleeping in that every night.

What I swapped to instead

I started switching everything over to organic, natural fibers, and this is where Coyuchi really stands out.

Their sheets, duvets, and bedding are made from organic cotton or linen, without all of the synthetic blends or heavy finishing processes.

The difference is honestly noticeable right away:

  • it feels more breathable

  • less “coated”

  • and you don’t get that slightly slick, almost plastic-y feel that a lot of bedding has

Sheets

Instead of microfiber or treated cotton, I look for:

  • organic cotton percale (cooler, more crisp)

  • or linen (more relaxed, very breathable)

Coyuchi’s options feel soft but still like actual fabric, not something that’s been overly processed.

Duvets + comforters

A lot of comforters are filled with synthetic fibers, which can trap heat and don’t breathe well.

Switching to natural materials makes a big difference in how your body regulates temperature overnight.

Pillows

Same thing here, most pillows are polyurethane foam or synthetic fill.

I’m not saying you need to replace everything overnight, but it’s worth being aware that this is something your face is on for 7 to 8 hours a night.

2. The Bathroom Swap No One Talks About

This was another one for me.

Those super fluffy robes and towels that feel amazing in the store are almost always:

  • polyester

  • or cotton blended with synthetics

What I switched to

Again, Coyuchi does this really well with:

  • organic cotton robes

  • towels

  • and even hair wraps

Their robes have that same cozy feel, but they’re actually absorbent and breathable.

Their towels feel substantial without that overly processed softness, and they hold up really well over time.

And I love their hair wraps. The one I have linked is like using a t-shirt to dry your hair aka the least damaging.
