The Start of The Nontoxic Tea

Hi, I’m Catherine! You may know me as the girl on Instagram telling you that everything you love in life is probably messing up your hormones. It’s not not true :)

While I enjoy packing tons of info into bite-sized 90-second videos, I realized we might all benefit from taking a deeper dive into some of these topics. So here we are: The Nontoxic Tea. This is where I’ll go beyond the quick clips to explore health topics, ingredient investigations, product recommendations —and of course, share links to all my favorite things that pass my personal ‘clean’ test.

A little about me: I grew up in the rainy city of Seattle and graduated with a Finance degree from the University of Washington. I went straight into M&A consulting at Deloitte after college, then transitioned into internal strategy for big tech. But while working from home, I started posting obsessively about beauty on TikTok. Fun fact—I worked at Sephora in college, so beauty has always been a passion of mine. Over time, my content started gaining traction, and I eventually found myself leaving corporate life behind to become a full-time beauty content creator.

It was around this time that I started my own health journey. I had been on birth control since age 12 due to ovarian cysts, and after getting off it 12 years later, I struggled to get my period back. I also had to rethink my relationship with food—turns out, my “calories are calories” mentality wasn’t serving me. Most of my diet was processed food, sugar, and not much protein or fat. I started listening to podcasts and reading books about metabolic function (Dr. Casey Means’ Levels podcast was my bible) and my entire mindset around food shifted.

It is hard to be in the functional nutrition space and not hear about topics like endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, daily toxin exposure, and mitochondrial damage. I was SHOCKED to learn that the perfume collection I held so dearly was directly contributing to my hormonal dysfunction. The more I learned, the more I wanted to clean up every aspect of my life. Slowly but surely, I started swapping out toxic items for cleaner alternatives.

Eventually, I developed my own standard for what I consider ‘clean’ and shifted my entire content focus. I believe women deserve to know what’s in the products we use daily so we can make informed decisions for our health. Everyone’s low-tox journey is different, but I hope my content can play a small part in making yours a little easier. Let’s sip the Nontoxic Tea together!

xx Catherine
